Chloe, an from the corporate office, arrived in a desolate corner of the corporate empire where impoverished workers toiled in the fields to produce goods for the city dwellers, with nearly unlimited power over the workers as being fired by the corporation meant certain starvation. As Chloe walked imperiously around the muddy fields, the workers knelt at her feet, praying she wouldn’t be displeased with them.
Amid the bowed heads and pleading eyes, one brave worker, named Jacob, noticed that Chloe’s boots had picked up some mud. Suppressing his fear, Jacob mustered the courage to speak, “M-Miss Chloe, I noticed your boots… they’re a bit muddy. I’d be honored to clean them for you.”
Chloe looked down at Jacob with a sly smile, enjoying the display of subservience. “Oh, how thoughtful of you, Jacob. Clean them, then, and make sure they shine. A good worker is always attentive to detail.”
Jacob, driven by a mix of fear and desperation, knelt before Chloe, his hands shaking as he delicately started cleaning her boots with his tongue. Chloe observed with detached amusement, occasionally giving comments like, “Don’t miss a spot, Jacob. A diligent worker knows perfection is in the details.”
As Jacob continued his degrading task, Chloe engaged in small talk, “Tell me, Jacob, do you enjoy working in these fields? It must be such a fulfilling life, providing for the needs of the city.”
Struggling to speak while licking Chloe’s boots, Jacob stammered, “I… I’m grateful for the work, Miss Chloe. We do our best to meet the city’s demands.”
Chloe chuckled condescendingly, “How admirable. Remember, your dedication doesn’t go unnoticed. Keep up the good work, and who knows, there might be more ‘opportunities’ for workers like you.”
With that, Chloe walked away, leaving Jacob kneeling in the mud, his fate still uncertain but hoping he managed to please his corporate overseer.
